Staying Active, Staying Social: The Benefits of Golf as You Age

The charm of the game of golf transcends age and gender. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, golf offers a unique blend of physical activity, intellectual challenge, and social interaction. John Knox Village, a senior living community in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, recognizes this and offers senior golf leagues for both men and women residents on the community’s 9-hole executive golf course. These leagues provide a welcoming environment for all, regardless of experience level, to enjoy the game, stay active, and connect with fellow residents.

More Than Just a Game

There are many health benefits associated with playing golf for seniors. (Of course, as with any new physical activity, please consult your physician before starting.) Health benefits include:

Low-impact Exercise

Walking the course keeps you active without straining your joints, perfect for maintaining cardiovascular health.

Balance & Flexibility

Swinging a club and navigating uneven terrain naturally improve balance and flexibility.

Tactical Decision-Making

Strategizing shots and remembering course layouts help keep your mind sharp and engaged.

Social Connection

Golfing with groups can create lasting friendships and build a supportive network.

Finding Your Perfect Green

Not all courses are created equal. Here’s what makes a course senior friendly:

Yardage

Look for courses with shorter yardages or senior tees, offering a manageable distance that allows you to focus on enjoying the game.

Course Layout

Favor courses with wider fairways that provide more forgiveness for off-center shots. This reduces frustration and keeps the game fun.

Amenities

Many courses have on-site practice areas to hone your skills.

The 9-hole course at John Knox Village has shorter yardages, forgiving fairways, and beautiful scenery creating a welcoming environment for senior golfers of all skill levels. The on-site practice area allows you to refine your putt, while our knowledgeable staff caters specifically to the needs of mature players.

Embrace the Outdoors

Playing golf at John Knox Village allows residents to spend time outdoors. It’s a perfect way to combine fitness with the pleasure of being surrounded by nature.

If you’re a resident or future resident of John Knox Village looking to stay active, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors, our exclusive Senior Golf Leagues are the perfect choice. Join us to experience not only the game but also the community spirit that makes our league a joyful part of our residents’ lives.

Senior Golf Leagues at John Knox Village

Golf is a social sport. Our Senior Men’s Golf League and Senior Women’s Golf League make it easy to find companionship and competition that suits every player’s needs.

The leagues meet at least twice weekly and offer a fun and social way to enjoy the game of golf. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, the leagues welcome you to join in on the camaraderie and competition.

On Friday, May 10, the Village’s Golf Leagues are hosting a “Take A Swing at JKV Golf Clinic” in partnership with MCC-Longview and former PGA pro and current golf coach Ron Filipowicz. All residents are invited to attend.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about the game of golf, including how to grip and swing a club. There will also be putting and chipping contests, a nine-hole scramble, and giveaways and prizes!

This will be a fun clinic designed for those who have an interest in learning and playing the game, or a golfer who wants to sharpen their skills.
