Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit “Raise a Roof for EMS,” a capital campaign to raise funds to create new headquarters for John Knox Village’s Emergency Medical Services team. The dedicated area will include pull-thru truck bays that will house and protect all four ambulances; sleeping quarters; full bathrooms; a kitchen with a lounge/day room; a training room; and office space.
In addition to serving John Knox Village residents, the EMS team provides emergency care, aid and support to residents of Lee’s Summit, Raytown, Harrisonville and other Missouri localities. Since the emergence of COVID-19, the number of calls the team responds to has increased markedly.
EMS team members work 24-hour shifts and must be prepared to answer a call at any moment. It is vitally important that the team has an area where they can relax, rest and re-charge during their downtime. They need to be ready for the next call. However, the current EMS base is only 790-square-feet and does not have the space, comforts or privacy the team needs.
