Long-time Board Member Honored by LeadingAge Missouri

A long-time member of the John Knox Village board of directors was recently named the Trustee of the Year by LeadingAge Missouri at its annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. George Pagels, who retired from Saint Luke’s Health System, was honored for his deep commitment to making life at the Village even better for all members of the Village community. The following is an excerpt from the award nomination submitted in his honor.

When Dr. George Pagels’ name was introduced as a possible member of the board of directors, John Knox Village leaders were sure he was the man for this very important and completely voluntary role, especially with is long-career in all things health-care related.

Pagels involvement on the board has spanned more than a decade. He served the Village with distinction from May 2006 until May 2012. After a brief break, he rejoined the board in May 2014 to fulfill a vacant seat and has been a contributing member ever since. Pagels also has served as a member of the PremierLife Board of Directors – the Village’s parent company – since May 2008.

During his time at John Knox Village, Dr. George Pagels has left his stamp in every single area. Pagels helped form a new strategic direction for the Village and set corresponding objectives for the organization’s CEO and President. He also has had a hand in managing growth and performance. His commitment to quality challenges staff to more effectively use metrics and measurement toward quality improvement. His understanding of the complexities of the health care industry helped set realistic goals for operational enhancement. His sincere curiosity and enthusiasm reinforced to staff his support and appreciation for the challenges and accomplishments in running the Village. Finally, he helps guide the board of directors to plan for the future growth and success of the Village campus, as well as focus on the best interests of the residents and patients the Village serves.
