The Village House, located within the Village Care Center, provides compassionate care and support to hospice patients and their families. Although most hospice patients receive care in the comfort of their home, there are times when this is not an option. The Village Care Center contracts with hospices to provide different levels of care to patients.
The staff at the Village House provides direct care including symptom management, with interdisciplinary hospice teams providing support such as case management, social workers and chaplains.
- Short-Term Inpatient Care for pain control or acute symptom management which cannot be managed in other settings.
- Respite Care which allows a patient to be admitted when 24-hour care is necessary to relieve the patients’ caregiver.
- 24-Hour Routine Home Care for patients whose pain and symptoms are well-managed but prefer not to return home. Room and Board fees are not covered under the Hospice Medicare Benefit.
At Village House, you will find a calm and compassionate atmosphere along with a variety of services designed for the comfort of patients and their families.
Our beautifully appointed private rooms include in-room kitchenettes, overnight accommodations for visitors, and a flat screen television. A comfortable family room features a computer with Internet access, cable television and a galley kitchen where light meals are offered.

- Hair salon, ice cream parlor and gift shop located within the Village Care Center
Village House services can be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance or private pay.
Village House began with Barbara Elder-Owens, founding director of Village Hospice, having a desire to provide a home-like inpatient care facility for hospice patients. Her vision became a reality in 2011, thanks in part to funding provided through the John Knox Village Foundation.
